Dodgy Nessie Photos

You can't be too careful when you see a Nessie photograph these days. I stumbled upon this picture at the facebook page of an enthusiast of El Nahuelito, the monster of Lake Nahuel Huapi. The title of the picture is "Loch Ness, Old Photograph".

There is an obvious suggestion of a long neck and a hump in the middle of the picture. Perhaps a genuine picture but then I thought I had seen this photo before. A look at my own blog revealed all.

This is one of my trap camera pictures shown at this previous posting. I wouldn't call it an "old photograph" either as you can tell from the timestamp: 13th May 2012! In fact, my posting went up on the 7th June and the doctored image was uploaded to Facebook 9 days later!

Sadly, the Internet is replete with fake images of lake monsters and sea serpents accomplished with models or photoshop. In fact, I am sure they outnumber the accepted images by a wide margin. Perhaps the owner of the Facebook page would enlighten us as to where he/she obtained this image.

  1. Really disappointing when people resort to these actions, all they do is tarnish the genuine pictures and sightings that occur.

    2. I don´t remember,I´ve visited so many sites, but I liked the effect.Anyway,Robert K Wilson started the hoax journey, and George Edwards finished it.90 % of the evidence is Hoax, including most photographs in this site, you know that, even R Rines was betrayed by the NATURE magazine in 1972,and by the elephant of a circus in the Loch in 1975.We don´t know whom to trust.I hope James cameron stars an underwater search in many lakes,to find at least the remains of what once were lake monsters.Congratulations for this page.Greetings.

Please can I have some of what he's smoking?

    4. yes,the flipper photograph of 1972 was retouched with an aerograph by the Nature magazine, and the photograph of the whole body of the creature in 1975 was just an elephant of a circus in the loch those days.

  3. The "creature" portion of the photo looks very similar to another picture on your excellent website - namely, the model used in the 1970s Sherlock Holmes movie being towed down the Loch. Perhaps you should be seeking some royalties!
BTW - what's next on your list for your insightful and unbiased famous photo analysis? Cockrell's would make a good study.

    1. I am currently working on a four part series on the Lachlan Stuart photo.

I also have what most of what I need for the F.C.Adams and O'Connor pictures.

Cockrell's picture will feature eventually once I think of something worthwhile to say about it.
