Yet More Nessie Images?

Hot on the heels of the image snapped a week ago, a video emerged from the weekend taken by a Rob Jones which the Scotsman newspaper ran. What is shows is an animal nonchalantly swimming away from a cruiser boat as they cross paths and both eventually disappear from view.

Now, one may just dismiss this as a swan or cormorant, especially since Nessies are not known for hanging around boats in a relaxed manner. So the one thing that intrigues me is the possible size of the object. We have a scale here as you would have noticed the man on the boat watching the animal swim away from it. The visible portion of the animal looks almost as tall as the man.

Now I know there is the matter of perspective which can make objects closer look bigger than those further away. So the matter is to be resolved by the man (or woman) on the boat. What do they think they saw from their prime vantage point? A simple bird or something else? I hop he was recording whatever is was! However, the Scotsman theory it was a log looks rather far fetched.

One other possibility is that someone is playing games (or experiments) here as we noted in our previous article the curious picture that turned up on the same day in the same area of Urquhart Bay. Watch this space I guess.

POSTSCRIPT: An interesting analysis of the video can be found here.

From the Scotsman:

After being posted missing for months without a sighting, tourists have captured new video of Nessie..although it may have been a log. Rob Jones, 35, from North Wales, shared the footage taken on Sunday of a mysterious shape moving across the Loch. A large group of tourists watched and took pictures as the object moved slowly close to a passing boat before disappearing.

Mr Jones said he remained sceptical: “I saw it quite far across the Loch near the castle, but by the time I stopped the van, It was very close and other people stopped to take photos too. Sadly I don’t believe in monsters, but would love to know what it was.”

  1. Cute video with the birds chirping, etc. But the "thing" doesn't look particularly animate to me - rather like a prop mounted on a platform. The "head" doesn't move, the "neck" doesn't bend, and it doesn't even give any signs of noticing the nearby boat...

  2. I can't believe the boat wouldn't have stopped or turned, if they thought they were looking at a monster. They were close enough to see what it was. And there's the fact that the object didn't seem phased at all by the boat. It didn't look like a log, standing out of the water at almost the height of a man or more. Unless the boat took some convincing photos of their own, I think it might be a hoax of some sort. Aside from the fact it seemed to be propelled through the water on its own, it didn't seem to be moving otherwise.

  3. Haha, looks like someone is having a bit of fun up there at the moment, its probably the same object that was photographed the other day.

  4. I must admit I thought the "head" was turning towards the end of the first par of the clip. Towards the end of the video we see the object moving towards the area where that photo was taken.

Oh well, we await a giveaway video from a boat or ....

    1. Yes, I noticed the head turning at that point also...

  5. Not much there to suggest a large body swimming below the waterline -- the "neck" is completely erect the whole time.

I think this probably has something to do with that "head and neck" recently spotted lying on the shore; but insofar as ambiguous footage goes, I love it.

  6. This is the first "head and neck" video footage since the Smith film.

Looks like a hoax, but it's an audacious one, and a lot more fun then the more ambiguous and boring stills we've been getting for years now!

  7. I think it's a hoax. But the shape of this object looks different to my eyes than the object recently photographed by Haley Johnson, which has more of a bend to it.

    1. It's possible any perceived difference is due to the angle/orientation of the object, which is unclear given the resolution of the original photo.

  8. The man on the boat does not seem too concerned. I guess he can see closer up that its nothing to get excited about.

  9. Oh dear; no one is taking this seriously, are they? I feel very safe in stating that the object in the film is the same fake Nessie head resting near the shore that was photographed the other day...

    1. I haven't closed the book yet - I want to hear from the person on the boat and IF it is a fake, a confession from the faker.

    2. So who took that photo? The object appears to be upright in the water near the shore. If this indeed is a prop then I guess all the the recent incidents are connected to this...

    3. I would love it if you tracked down and talked to the faker...

  10. Yes it would be good to hear from the person on the boat, they didn't seem very interested in it as they passed.

  11. It seems to me that the crowd of onlookers do not treat this seriously,it's like they realise they are witnessing a performance.

I don't know how anyone would react after seeing Nessie but these witnesses seem to treat the whole thing as a joke.

There is no animation in the "creature/prop" as far as I can see.So in my judgement this is not a real animal.

  12. Maybe the person on the boat was responsible for the hoax and was going to take a few pictures, but then the subsequent reveal from other sources showing the boat so close to the 'monster' has stopped him in his tracks?

  13. Firstly, my pet hate is Nessie being refereed to as a 'monster' Nessie is a UWD (unidentified water dweller) back to my main point, rant over.

I fail to note any similarities of the head and neck in the photo at the shore line (photo) in the bushes unless this photo showed a deflated head and neck? The erect neck would make one consider this being a fully inflated 'prop' post dumping at the shore line.

I propose (dealing with unidentified creature) and reading the above posts as to no water movement around the anomaly might suggest the creature UWD might swim as do sea horses, body vertical and fins/flippers producing forward motion.

Hey! What do I know, through enough ideas in the pot, one of them is going to be right.

  14. It would be interesting if a serious investigator used digital enhancement software on these recent photos and videos...

  15. I think the person taking the video is the hoaxer - surely they could have zoomed in a bit closer?

  16. I think this is a stunt involving the boat and it's been busted by the person spotting and filming the whole thing from the castle carpark.

  17. Here's something similar swimming in a river in Maine. Critics say it is just a floating log, but comparisons have also been made with the Lake Champlain monster...

  19. Yes the experiment that was on channel 5 a few years was very good 2 be fair. My only concern is if we get 2 many good hoaxes then when people do actually see the back or head of one of these fantastic animals they might just think its a well made hoax.I hope not.
