A New Sighting from 2012

The Aberdeen Press and Journal reports today on Gary Campbell's recent comments about the lack of Nessie sightings since 2012. In response to this, a retired Royal Mail worker by the name of Ken  Ross, contacted him to recount his sighting and his four photographs from October 25th 2012. His story begins as he was driving from his home in Inverness to Fort William and as they passed the village of Inverfarigaig.

"My wife said she could see something strange in the loch so I stopped in a lay-by and took four photographs. It looked like a boat wake, but it wasn’t wide enough to have come from a boat, was about 200ft long and travelling at a fair speed for a while then stopped – there wasn’t a boat to be seen for miles. I don’t know what caused it and didn’t give it a great deal of thought until I saw Gary’s appeal to get in touch.”



I can't really add much more at this point. The location itself is a highway for cruise boats, but the witness says he saw none and was convinced it behaved in a way different to a wake. Indeed, boat wakes don't just stop, they just dissipate slowly. I have seen a couple of videos like this recently which show some unusual surface activity without anything solid revealing itself. 

I refer readers first to a video below from April 2010 which I highlighted some months back by way of comparison. Also, there follows a strange water disturbance filmed from the tower of Urquhart Castle filmed on the 24th August 2010 near the location of the first video. What these could be is a matter of conjecture and may all well be classed as having the same cause (hat tip to jimmy_sher for second video).

      I am at a loss to explain the presence of concentric rings of that size in the water other than a single object of considerable size just below the surface. A large shoal of sizeable fish would produce a more disturbed ripple effect at the surface, but this is clearly a single set of rings emanating from a central source and slowly dissipating. It would be interesting to hear what views anyone else has to offer.

      Yes, GB I quite agree, and was thinking the same thing. What’s with the anonymous? I wish all the anonymi would identify themselves at the end of their comment so we know which “anonymous” were hearing from. There is one skeptic anonymous who is particularly pesky.     Obviously something larger than a fish moving around here! Here is an answer to those who claim people dont video what they report. And its things like this that keep Shine,Raynor, EKM and co still thinking that there is something to the monster story! Thats why they spend so much time discussing the subject.

      Dennis, I have told you before - sceptics do not have to secretly believe to remain interested in this stuff. Read that last sentence and digest it.

      Second video is interesting and inconclusive. I don't think the disturbance is coherant or solid enough. I think it is made up of a number of small animals, probably fish. No hump breaks the surface. I would put this in the inconclusive bucket, but at the interesting end. I suppose if you believe it's a single animal you would have to accept the sturgeon possibility.

    Disagree. If you are obsessed with writing on a subject all the time then you must think there is something to it. I dont believe in bigfoot so i wouldnt spend so much time writing about it. Digest that and it then becomes very obvious!!!

    They have broke the surface many a time. And best evidence is the 2000 video near urquhart castle with a photo to go with it which you can find in a colin baxter booklet

      I have to say (as a sceptic) that I find the second of these 2 videos by far the most intriguing of all LN films and videos I've ever seen.
      Roland, have you asked Adrian Shine and Dick Raynor what they think of this video, I'd be very interested to hear their responses.
      Jake, for me at least, this video has me questioning my scepticism far more than the video near Urquhart Castle.
      Now using my chosen name here by the way.

      Hi Jake. I have the Colin Baxter booklet with the picture you mentioned but I wasn't aware of the video associated with it. If the video is anywhere near as good as the picture it would be well worth a look. Have you seen and do you have a source for the video by any chance?

      I haven't asked. It is an interesting video and clearly one has to try and eliminate other suspects. It does not look like a shoal of fish as I would expect a more randomly disturbed surface.

      A seal (if there was even one around) usually comes up after 5 minutes or so.

      Urquhart Bay is one of the more gas productive areas, but again, I would expect to see bubbling at the surface.

    Its not in the bay just near it. I believe the video i have seen is of the same object in the water. It travels for 30 seconds leaving a huge wash across the loch. Not a seal or a shoal of fish. One solid object ,best video i have seen.

    Loch ness and inverness by colin baxter page 17. There is a video for the same photo taken at a higher location which shows the object in the booklet travel for 30 seconds leaving a huge v wash down the loch . Cheers

    The one im referring to is 2000 near urquhart castle. Page 17 in his booklet loch ness and inverness. Some one snapped the photo whilst someone further up the hill caught it on video.
