The Leopard Seal has the longest neck among known seals, but their range is limited to the Antarctic, so quite unlikely in this or any case near Scotland. While there are no true long-necked amphibians, googling up images of salamanders will turn up a few where the relative distance between the head and fore-limbs is not unlike the same proportions in seals other than the aforementioned Leopard. It can be very subjective in many cases as to where the head ends and the neck begins. As to other Amphibia, caecilians appear as if they were all neck (although they are not).Steve Plambeckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09651489411808346005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-358999656752738469.post-43248118003185404402017-08-02T13:54:21.857-07:002017-08-02T13:54:21.857-07:00A seal has a longish neck, a salamander doesn'...A seal has a longish neck, a salamander doesn't. paddyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08990245875787442561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-358999656752738469.post-90693728195682396982017-08-02T13:02:44.010-07:002017-08-02T13:02:44.010-07:00Killearn is about 4 to 5 miles east of Loch Lomond...Killearn is about 4 to 5 miles east of Loch Lomond which has had its own reports of water beasties in the past. (The Wikipedia article on salamanders has a good section on their surprisingly diverse vocal abilities.) Also quite telling is that the Chinese Giant Salamander is locally called the Wa Wa Yu (baby fish) because its distress call sounds similar to a baby's cry. My other observation about this Henderson sighting: there's no long neck! As in the clear land sighting by Alfred Cruickshank two years earlier (which also included a distress vocalization) long necks are only conspicuous in their absence! Other than the long tail, Henderson reports a seal-like animal. That makes it seem pretty impossible Henderson saw a long neck he just failed to mention.Steve Plambeckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09651489411808346005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-358999656752738469.post-71316455208136184012017-07-31T20:51:15.296-07:002017-07-31T20:51:15.296-07:00What about this (fake, tree stump, unknown cryptid...What about this (fake, tree stump, unknown cryptid?) photographed more recently on land in Scotland?

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4053690/walker-photographs-loch-ness-monster-style-creature-scotland-field/Olrikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14519546544726111480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-358999656752738469.post-39056633653295977932017-07-31T05:45:32.316-07:002017-07-31T05:45:32.316-07:00Interesting that he didn't describe it as a pr...Interesting that he didn't describe it as a prehistoric type creature, indicating that he didn't just copy the Spicer's sighting, or get swept up in the sceptic's favourite King Kong mania. I believe amphibians can cry out as well as mammals. This is a truly interesting account, and it's a pity it wasn't reported in 1925, but if course there were good reasons for that also.

The agility tallies with a Morar land sighting many years later.
